"Erin has a Diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy as well as being a Qualified Bowen Practitioner. Erin and her family live locally with her children attending local kindergarten and schools. She has been a part of the Drysdale Football club for 5 years as a player, trainer, assistant coach and proud Mum. 2022 will see Erin take the field again as part of the Drysdale Women’s football team."

According to Arthritis Australia, 1 in 7 people have arthritis. That’s more than 3.6 million Australians, of all ages and walks of life.

Arthritis is an umbrella term that accounts for over 150 types of conditions with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and gout being some of the more common types. Arthritis can affect people in many different ways depending on what type they have, but some common symptoms include muscular pains and aches, swelling or redness around a joint, and stiffness or restriction.

The rate of arthritis diagnosis is expected to rise to 5 million Australians by 2030, and is currently the #2 reason why so many Australians are retiring early due to health reasons. So what can we do to prevent this condition, and prevent the worsening of symptoms for those already affected?

Firstly, keep moving to keep your joints healthy. Research has found that regular exercise is one of the most effective treatments for arthritis. It can strengthen your muscles, and improve mobility and posture. It can also decrease stress, relieve tension and pain. Some recommended low-impact activities include (but are not limited to!) walking, yoga, and water exercise classes or swimming.
